The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) temple priests and purohits wing’s South India organiser, Balu Saravanakarthik, has alleged a security lapse at the Srivilliputhur Thaayar Andal Temple.

According to his statement, a woman wearing a burqa and displaying what he described as non-Hindu religious identifiers entered the temple premises on Tuesday morning, including the Periya Perumal (Sri Vadaperungoviludaiyan) shrine area. He claimed police personnel and temple staff on duty allowed her inside without obtaining any approval.

He said the incident was “against the law” and pointed to an earlier episode near the Srivilliputhur bus stand, where individuals allegedly issued public threats outside a mosque, claiming that no proper action has been taken so far. In that context, he termed the temple entry incident a serious security failure.

Citing provisions under the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) framework, he said non-Hindus who wish to worship in temples are required to approach the temple office and obtain permission by declaring faith in Hindu deities. He alleged this procedure was not properly followed by the temple administration and the police, and demanded an immediate clarification from the Virudhunagar district Superintendent of Police and the temple management.
