New Delhi: Indian pilot Captain Sumit Machar is receiving widespread praise from around the world for his actions in preventing a major aviation disaster involving Israeli passengers.
According to the report, Machar fought back with courage even after being stabbed and bleeding, and managed to stop a co-pilot who allegedly tried to cause an accident on a flydubai flight travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Machar’s parents over the phone and commended his bravery. Modi also said the Indian embassy has extended the necessary support for Machar’s treatment and recovery.
Machar’s childhood friend Prateek Gandhi described him as calm, composed and quick-thinking from an early age. Neighbours, including Ami Sabane and Daulat Bhai, also praised his character and prayed for his speedy recovery, noting that his family is currently in Dubai.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Machar is safe and undergoing medical treatment, and added that the nation stands with him and his family.
