Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay is reportedly skipping a campaign meeting of alliance party leaders scheduled in Madurantakam on Tuesday, choosing instead to continue a distinct, solo-style election outreach.
According to the report, Vijay’s approach is being compared to the late former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa’s campaign method, which involved closely assessing alliance strength, local political conditions and caste-wise vote patterns during elections.
Vijay has already campaigned separately in Madurantakam and also held an individual campaign in Dharapuram on Monday as part of the ongoing bypoll efforts in the two constituencies.
The Madurantakam event is being held by parties in the “secular social justice victory alliance” led by the TVK. However, TVK functionaries said Vijay is staying away from the joint platform due to the constituency’s key vote bases.
They claimed that Dalit votes are expected to consolidate for TVK because the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) is part of the alliance, while the Vanniyar vote is seen as crucial and sensitive. With the PMK not in the rival alliance this time, they said Vijay is avoiding a joint rally with VCK and other allies to maximise Vanniyar support.
