Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay has appealed to the public to wear khadi with pride and joy, saying it can directly strengthen the livelihoods of weavers and artisans.
In a statement, he said buying a khadi garment is a recognition of a weaver’s skill, while purchasing village-made products is a mark of respect for the hard work of craftsmen. Using locally made goods, he added, encourages the state’s production capacity.
He noted that khadi outlets across Tamil Nadu offer khadi cotton, polyester and silk varieties to the public at a 30% discount throughout the year. He urged people to make use of this opportunity.
Calling on school and college students, government staff, private-sector employees, youth and all residents of Tamil Nadu, the Chief Minister asked them to buy khadi clothing and village products to bring renewed hope to spinners, weavers and artisans.
He concluded with an appeal to “choose khadi, celebrate craftsmanship, and energise local production,” and to help make weavers’ lives more successful by wearing khadi with happiness.
