The Lionesses Special Force, formed after the T.Ve.K. government assumed office, has sought greater legal powers to strengthen its operations across Tamil Nadu.
According to the report, the state has allocated Rs 354 crore for the unit. A dedicated helpline number, 1091, was also introduced to receive complaints, and the force is currently deployed statewide in 270 teams for patrol and crime-prevention duties.
However, officers said coordination from local police has not been adequate, largely due to the workload faced by station staff. They noted that while the special force verifies complaints and identifies suspects, the subsequent steps are handled by local police.
The officers have now appealed to the government to grant the special force authority to register cases and carry out related actions, so that complaints can be processed and offenders brought to justice more effectively.
