Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts aimed at bringing the Ukraine war to an end.
Speaking at the Valdai forum conference in Russia, Putin said that despite the “excellent, friendly and personal” relationship between the two leaders, Modi repeatedly raises the question of putting a full stop to the conflict.
Putin said Modi has “very good ideas” to resolve the Russia–Ukraine confrontation and to reach a peaceful settlement that would be acceptable to both sides. He added that the Indian Prime Minister maintains a naturally neutral position while showing interest in ending the fighting.
Thanking Modi for his proposals, Putin described the approach as humanitarian and said Modi is keen to end the war quickly through negotiations and peaceful means.
Putin’s open appreciation of India’s neutral and peace-oriented stance is being viewed as significant at the global level.
