Minister Ramesh on Thursday told reporters in Tiruchirappalli that if Udhayanidhi continues to make what he called obscene, defamatory and double-meaning remarks, he could face an electoral setback similar to what Stalin experienced in the past.

The minister also claimed that people are satisfied with the delivery of government schemes and are expressing appreciation. He said the administration led by Chief Minister Vijay is functioning as a “good governance” model and is taking firm steps to protect temple properties.

Referring to alleged irregularities in temple lands, Ramesh said citizens have been coming forward with complaints about issues that occurred during the previous regime. He cited repeated complaints regarding alleged malpractice involving land linked to the Srirangam temple.

According to him, after examining available evidence, the temple administration filed a police complaint, leading to registration of an FIR. He said the accused challenged the FIR in court, but the court refused to quash it, and an arrest has been made with the investigation now under way.

Ramesh alleged that despite claims of protecting and recovering temple lands, DMK members had encroached upon temple properties in several places. He reiterated that voters would decide the outcome in the next election if such conduct continues.
