Jaipur: Retired judge Sanjeev Prakash Sharma has publicly rebutted allegations levelled against him by Supreme Court judge Justice Sandeep Mehta, saying the complaints may have stemmed from “professional jealousy”.

Sharma, who served as the acting Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court, said the accusations—ranging from misuse of authority to questions over integrity—were unsupported. Justice Mehta had sent complaint letters to Chief Justice Suryakant and the collegium.

Following the controversy, Sanjay Agarwal, then a judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court, was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Rajasthan High Court. Sharma, who had gone on leave amid the dispute, retired from service on September 26.

In an interview to a leading daily, Sharma questioned the basis for a Supreme Court judge to intervene in internal matters of a High Court. He also alleged that the lawyers’ protest against him in the Rajasthan High Court was instigated by Justice Mehta.

Sharma said he had disposed of more than 88,000 cases during his short tenure, reiterating that all allegations against him were “baseless”.
