The Supreme Court on Wednesday questioned the Tamil Nadu government on its position in the case concerning lighting a lamp on the lamp pillar at the summit of Tirupparankundram hill.

A bench comprising Justice Aravind Kumar and Justice Vipul M. Pancholi raised the query in the backdrop of a change in government in the state, asking whether the earlier administration’s stand continues or has been altered.

During the hearing, the petitioner’s side pointed out that the state had not yet filed its counter affidavit. Responding to the court, the government’s counsel said the earlier stand remains in place and there is no change.

The bench then adjourned the matter to November 17, granting time for the Tamil Nadu government and other parties to file their responses.
