New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday termed the extradition of alleged drug trafficking kingpin Navreet Singh from Turkey to India a “historic milestone”.

In a statement shared on social media, Shah said Singh was a key figure in a network that repeatedly smuggled narcotics from Afghanistan into India. He alleged that the accused had obtained Turkish citizenship using a fake identity.

According to Shah, the syndicate was involved in trafficking heroin and methamphetamine, and Indian intelligence agencies worked to establish Singh’s real identity and secure his return.

Shah said Singh has been brought to India and lodged in jail in connection with cases related to drug trafficking and other charges. He also praised the agencies involved and reiterated the government’s resolve to eliminate drug trafficking gangs by December 2029.
