DMK president M.K. Stalin, campaigning for party candidate Suganya in Dharapuram, warned that if TVK were to win the by-election, the cost of living would rise further. He claimed electricity charges, bus fares, milk prices and registration fees could all go up.

Stalin alleged the by-election was the result of “horse-trading” and money being distributed, and said voters knew who gave and received it. He urged people to teach the ruling side a lesson, and attacked the TVK candidate, accusing her of betraying public trust.

He also criticised the government’s performance, alleging that departmental work had stalled and that power cuts had increased. He said there was a shortage of milk and that ration items were not being supplied properly, blaming it on government inaction.

Stalin further claimed prices of essentials, including rice and groceries, had risen sharply, and accused the chief minister of failing to hold review meetings to control inflation. He also alleged a deterioration in law and order, citing an increase in murders and sexual crimes, and said action was not being taken against those involved in narcotics.

Reiterating his warning, Stalin said a TVK win in the by-election would lead to further hikes across key services and commodities, and asked voters to back the DMK candidate.
