Dubai: The United Arab Emirates has officially described the mid-air attack on a Flydubai flight as an act of terrorism, following an investigation into the incident.
The episode occurred on a Flydubai service operating between Dubai and Tel Aviv, where a stabbing was reported and an attempt was allegedly made to bring down the aircraft. The UAE had earlier ordered a probe from a terrorism angle and has now confirmed that assessment.
Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to the UAE President, confirmed the development in a post on X. The UAE government also praised Indian pilot Captain Smith Machar as a “true hero”.
According to the statement, despite sustaining serious injuries, the captain kept the cockpit door open to allow other crew members to enter and assist. A special team led by the UAE Attorney General is continuing a detailed investigation into the links and planning behind the attack.
