A family from Kamarajapuram in Pudukottai has appealed to the Chief Minister, alleging that accident relief has not been provided even five years after a woman construction worker died due to electrocution.

According to the family, Naga Jothi became the sole breadwinner after her husband died in 2018. During the COVID-19 lockdown period, she went for construction work on May 8, 2021, when she was fatally electrocuted after coming into contact with a high-tension power line. The family said a case was registered at Ganesh Nagar police station under FIR No. 245.

They said political representatives and trade union members extended support at the time, and a petition was submitted to the district administration seeking welfare-board relief, Rs 10 lakh compensation for alleged negligence by the electricity department, and a government job for one family member.

The family stated that they submitted the required accident intimation form and documents to the Assistant Commissioner of Labour (Social Security Scheme) in Pudukottai, citing their Tamil Nadu Construction Workers Welfare Board registration number 21MZDR109307. However, they allege that no update or assistance has been received so far.

The daughter, Yogeswari, who has completed an undergraduate degree at the Government Music College in Thiruvaiyaru, said the family continues to struggle without support and urged the government to ensure the promised relief is processed.
