Police in Thoothukudi district have seized 318 kg of cannabis that was allegedly being transported from Andhra Pradesh and intended to be smuggled to Sri Lanka.
According to police, they received a tip-off that cannabis bundles were concealed in a fish-carrying container lorry and brought to the district’s coastal area. Based on the information, officers conducted vehicle checks in the Kulathur police station limits on the intervening night.
During the inspection, police found two bundles weighing 159 kg each, totalling 318 kg, hidden inside the container lorry that was carrying fish. A luxury car travelling ahead of the lorry was also stopped and its occupants were questioned.
In connection with the case, police arrested Joshua Kanagaraj (47) from Thiruvallur district, Thanvel (51) from Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh, and Yadala Srinivas Kalyan (24) from Tanguturu in Prakasam district. The container lorry and a Mahindra XUV car were seized, and further investigation is under way.
