New Delhi: The Election Commission has announced that Rajya Sabha elections for the upcoming vacancies will be held on October 16.

In Uttar Pradesh, the terms of 10 members are ending — including eight BJP MPs such as Union ministers Hardeep Singh Puri, B L Verma and Arun Singh, along with one MP each from the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party. Separately, a Trinamool Congress MP from West Bengal has resigned, adding to the vacancies.

Ahead of the poll, the BJP released its list of candidates for Uttar Pradesh, giving tickets only to new faces. The nominees are Dharampal Singh, Radhakant Ojha, Prakashpal, Vidyasagar Sonkar, Gopi Krishna Pandey, Priyanka Singh Rawat, Ram Pratap Singh Chauhan and Shruti Gangwar.

Notably, the names of Union ministers Hardeep Singh Puri and B L Verma do not figure in the list. The development comes amid reports that a Union Cabinet reshuffle could take place at any time.
