Chennai: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) has said that even those who now criticise the party’s ‘Two Leaves’ symbol—including DAVEGA—were treated with goodwill by the AIADMK during the Karur issue.
In a statement, EPS said he is neither the heir of a major political leader nor a big film star, describing himself as an ordinary person from a common family. He said he understands people’s daily struggles and does not rely on “fake dialogues” or flashy rhetoric.
Claiming he rose from the grassroots, EPS alleged that he faces more conspiracies than other party leaders. He said the AIADMK, built and protected by MGR and Jayalalithaa, should not become a victim of “self-interested” forces, and asserted that he and party workers have continued to fight to safeguard it.
Referring again to DAVEGA’s criticism, EPS asked whether it was a “crime” that the AIADMK thought and acted for the good of others in the Karur matter. He also alleged attempts to lure and “steal” AIADMK MLAs through bargaining, and urged those involved to think about the 6,000 party functionaries and the lakhs of people who trusted the party and helped it win.
