Madurantakam witnessed a charged campaign meeting on Saturday as Minister Aadav launched sharp criticism at DMK leaders while canvassing for TVK candidate Maragatham Kumaravel.

According to the minister, TVK workers were seeking votes by meeting people directly “without giving even one rupee for a vote,” and he alleged that the DMK did not know how to earn people’s affection and trust.

Aadav claimed that a long-standing political culture built around winning through money had been broken, and predicted that Kumaravel would win the upcoming by-election by a margin of one lakh votes. He also made a provocative remark comparing the language used by Udhayanidhi and his father, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin.

Continuing his attack, he said the DMK lacked ideological politics and alleged that Udhayanidhi, as Leader of the Opposition, walked out instead of answering questions in the Assembly. He further claimed that Madurantakam had not received a good hospital even after 50 years of DMK rule, and promised that under TVK governance the area would get a quality hospital, a college and a sports ground.

Campaigning by all parties concluded at 6 pm on Saturday, the report said.
