Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said fresh opportunities are emerging in Switzerland for Indian students, researchers, professionals and youth, following new understandings reached between the two countries.

Swiss President Guy Parmelin, who is on a visit to India, met Modi in New Delhi. The leaders held discussions and signed key agreements before addressing the media jointly.

Modi said the two sides have taken important decisions to simplify investment avenues and improve access for Indian exports to the Swiss market. He noted that exports from India to Switzerland are expected to rise in sectors such as agriculture, pharmaceuticals, textiles and engineering goods, while Swiss investment is likely to grow in biotechnology, life sciences, banking, insurance and food processing.

He added that joint research initiatives in health, clean energy and space will be launched soon. With awareness of yoga and Ayurveda increasing, the leaders also discussed expanding cooperation in these areas.

Modi said both countries share faith in democratic values, rule of law and dialogue, and will work together for global peace and stability. He added that India will continue efforts aimed at peace in matters related to Ukraine and West Asia, and that both sides agreed on pursuing solutions to international challenges and reforms in global institutions.
