Stockholm: The Nobel Prizes are awarded each year in six major fields, including Physics, Chemistry and Medicine. The announcements are scheduled one category per day from October 5 through October 12.
The first announcement this year was for the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. The Nobel committee said the prize will be shared by three scientists: Karl Deisseroth of the United States, and Peter Hegemann and George Nagel of Germany.
They were recognised for discoveries related to optogenetics, a technology that enables the control of nerve cells using light.
According to the committee, the technique helps researchers study how neurons in the brain generate memories and emotions, offering a powerful tool for understanding brain function.
