Singapore has launched a new dating app aimed at addressing its declining birth numbers, which the government links to delayed marriages. The country recorded only 29,864 births last year, with the annual trend showing a continued drop in population growth.
To help counter this slide, the government has introduced an app called “First Date.” In its first phase, the platform will be available for use by government officials.
Unmarried men and women aged 21 to 35 can use the app to look for a partner. The app will recommend one suitable match per month, and both individuals will be given 72 hours to decide.
Contact numbers will be shared only if both sides agree. Profiles are designed to be visible only to the relevant person, and the system will not pair colleagues working in the same department.
