Chennai: DMK president M.K. Stalin on Saturday alleged that a “non-existent story” is being circulated to mislead the people of Tamil Nadu, claiming that the DMK had tried to form an alliance with the AIADMK.
In a video message released as campaigning for the by-election came to a close, Stalin questioned whether the by-election served any public interest. He described it as a betrayal aimed at weakening the party that had nurtured those involved, and asked voters what response they would give to those who, he said, enabled “horse-trading” by bargaining away the constituency’s self-respect.
Stalin also challenged the argument that only those in the ruling party can deliver development, asking why opposition MLAs in every government did not resign if that were true. He accused the ruling side of spreading the alleged alliance narrative instead of seeking votes by speaking about promises such as a monthly ₹2,500 women’s entitlement and six LPG cylinders.
He further criticised the government’s priorities, alleging that it focuses on protecting its hold on power and on buying MLAs, while failing to address issues raised by farmers, fishermen and government employees. He urged voters to “teach a lesson” to betrayal so that such injustices do not recur.
