The CBI has arrested Sushil Kumar Garg (44), a Deputy Director in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and Sachin Keshav Bane (40), a director of a flight training institute, in connection with an alleged bribery case involving Rs 2.5 lakh.

According to officials, the DGCA office at Meenambakkam in Chennai oversees licensing and related work for flight training centres. Garg was serving in the Airworthiness division, which handles key compliance and certification matters.

The case began after the CBI in Delhi received a complaint on October 3 around 5 pm alleging that Garg had demanded a bribe from the institute director. Following the complaint, the agency kept the suspects under discreet surveillance.

During the probe, the CBI found that “Equi Air Training”, based in Thane, Maharashtra, was operating a training centre near Kamalapuram in the Omalur area of Salem district with seven aircraft. Garg had inspected the facility on July 31 and reportedly noted deficiencies and non-compliance.

Investigators allege that Garg sought illegal gratification to overlook the shortcomings. The CBI claims he later accepted a mobile phone worth Rs 50,000 and subsequently received Rs 2.5 lakh. Both accused have been taken to Delhi for further questioning.
