A Flydubai flight bound for Tel Aviv was hit by a violent incident after an Omani co-pilot, identified as Al Hammami, allegedly tried to hijack the aircraft and attacked Indian pilot Captain Smit Machar, according to reports.
The captain sustained severe head injuries, with the attack said to have caused a skull fracture. Despite being badly hurt, he reportedly acted decisively and helped foil the attempt.
Machar was given emergency medical treatment in Saudi Arabia. After doctors repaired and stabilised the skull injury, he was flown to the United Arab Emirates for further care.
The report also said he suffered injuries to his arms, legs, chest and abdomen, but is recovering quickly under medical supervision.
