The Nobel Prize, instituted in the name of Swedish scientist Alfred Nobel, is awarded each year to individuals who have made outstanding contributions across six fields, including medicine and physics.
The announcement of this year’s laureates began on October 5, with the first name revealed for the Nobel Prize in Medicine.
On October 6, the Nobel Prize in Physics was announced. Belgian physicist Francis Halzen, who works at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in the United States, was selected for the honour.
Halzen was recognised for his contributions to the IceCube neutrino observatory and for the detection of high-energy neutrinos, according to the announcement.
