The Madras High Court has granted permission to the DMK to proceed with a civil suit seeking restrictions on criticism and compensation, following remarks made by two ministers and posts on social media.

According to the case details, ministers Nirmal Kumar and Aadhav Arjuna alleged that the DMK government protected Granite Veeramani, who was arrested in a sexual assault case, by not taking action. The IT wing of the party referred to as “Thaveka” also posted comments against the DMK government on social media.

DMK general secretary Durai Murugan approached the High Court seeking orders to restrain the ministers and the IT wing members from criticising the DMK, and sought Rs 1 crore as damages.

Justice Govindarajan Thilagavathi heard the matter and permitted the DMK to file the suit.

Challenging this permission, ministers Aadhav Arjuna and Nirmal Kumar have filed an appeal before the High Court.
