Delhi Police have arrested Nadeem Ahmed for allegedly creating and circulating a fake video that claimed a police officer sexually harassed a woman journalist. Investigators say the video was intended to defame the police force and trigger public outrage.

The controversy emerged during a protest at Jantar Mantar, where members of a political party accused the Chief Election Commissioner of acting unilaterally without consulting the other election commissioners. Police said several people joined the protest posing as journalists, confronted officers with microphones, and argued while resisting efforts to disperse.

Amid the commotion, allegations were raised that Assistant Commissioner Vivek Bhagat had harassed a woman journalist. A video was then posted on social media and presented as CCTV footage to support the claim, prompting criticism of the police by multiple political parties.

Delhi Police’s cyber unit examined the clip and concluded it was fabricated using artificial intelligence. Following the probe, Nadeem Ahmed—who is said to run a YouTube channel—was arrested, and police said they are investigating who commissioned the video, whether any party was involved, and who funded the operation.

According to Joint Commissioner Manjeet, the accused is from Palwal in Haryana and had studied at a madrasa in Delhi’s Saket area. Police said he told investigators he made the fake video to tarnish the police’s image and to incite protesters against them.
