Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay has heaped praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the Indian leader completes 25 years in public office. Tobgay said Modi consistently gives priority to neighbouring countries in international affairs.
He also credited Modi with playing a key role in making the African Union a permanent member of the G20, saying the move strengthened the voice of developing nations. Tobgay added that India’s growth benefits countries such as Bhutan by offering a large market as well as investment and technology.
Recalling that Modi chose Bhutan for his first foreign visit after taking office as Prime Minister in 2014, Tobgay said he views Modi like an elder brother. He went further to describe Modi as “an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.”
Tobgay said Indian support during Bhutan’s 11th Five-Year Plan enabled his government to implement several projects, which he linked to his return as Prime Minister. He added that funding for Bhutan’s 13th Five-Year Plan has been doubled to Rs 10,000 crore, and said India continues to back Bhutan through railways, infrastructure and investments.
