Chennai: DMK spokesperson and advocate Saravanan has publicly questioned Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his silence on allegations that lakhs of voters were removed from Tamil Nadu’s electoral rolls during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.

His remarks came a day after Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders staged a protest in New Delhi, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and condemning alleged irregularities in the SIR process.

In a social media post, Saravanan asked why Rahul Gandhi had not addressed the Tamil Nadu deletions and sought clarity on his stand. He also urged Rahul Gandhi to state whether he supports Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s view that, after the SIR exercise, newly elected state governments should be dissolved and elections conducted using ballot papers.

Saravanan further alleged that Rahul Gandhi may be avoiding the Tamil Nadu SIR issue due to fear of Congress ally TVK and its leader, Chief Minister Vijay, and accused him of “double standards.”
