The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has said that seven countries, including India, have expressed interest in hosting the 2036 Olympic Games.
The Olympics, held once every four years, were last staged in Paris in 2024. The next editions are scheduled for Los Angeles in 2028 and Brisbane in 2032. India is seeking to bring the 2036 Games to the country.
As part of this effort, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has formally submitted an application to the IOC, indicating interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics in Ahmedabad.
In its statement, the IOC listed India, Germany, Qatar, South Africa, Turkey, South Korea and Hungary as the interested parties. It said the countries must submit detailed reports covering venue plans, athletes’ experience, fundraising strength, political and public support, organisational capability and the long-term benefits of hosting.
The final-stage selection process to decide the host nation is expected to begin in 2028, with the host city and country likely to be confirmed in 2029.
