An ashram linked to Premanand Maharaj in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, has come under scrutiny after an incident on September 25, when a disciple reportedly fell from the fourth floor and died.
Amid the controversy, claims surfaced that star cricketer Virat Kohli was allegedly brought to the ashram after being paid Rs 5 crore, purportedly to boost its influence. Kohli and his wife, actor Anushka Sharma, have been visiting the ashram frequently since January 4, 2023.
In a statement issued on behalf of Kohli, the allegation was categorically denied. The statement said the claim was completely false, unsupported by evidence, and contrary to facts.
It added that Kohli’s visits were solely due to his faith and devotion towards Premanand Maharaj, and urged that facts be verified before such claims are amplified.
