The Madras High Court on Tuesday heard arguments from Chief Minister Vijay’s side seeking dismissal of election petitions that challenge his victory from Chennai’s Perambur Assembly constituency.

Vijay won the seat in the last Assembly election with a margin of 53,715 votes. The result has been challenged through election petitions filed by DMK candidate R.D. Sekar and voters Dinesh and Lakshmi Narasimman.

During the final hearing before Justice V. Lakshmi Narayanan, Vijay’s counsel argued for a second day that the nomination papers contained details of assets belonging to Vijay and his wife, along with income-tax particulars, and that nothing was concealed.

The counsel submitted that while minor errors, if any, could exist, they do not make the acceptance of the nomination invalid. Stating that the allegations were unsupported by evidence, the counsel urged the court to reject the election petitions.

Following the submissions, the judge adjourned the matter for arguments from the petitioners’ side.
