Washington: US President Donald Trump has blamed Ukraine for the recent rise in fuel prices, arguing that the increase is not linked to the conflict involving Iran.

In a post on his social media account, Trump said oil flows through the Strait of Hormuz are stabilising, with large volumes of crude moving daily. He claimed this indicates supply disruptions are easing and are not the main driver of higher prices.

Trump instead pointed to Ukraine’s strikes on Russian oil refineries as a key reason for the price rise. He also said domestic political factors have contributed.

According to Trump, refinery closures in states governed by the opposition Democratic Party have also played a role. The remarks come as the US heads toward midterm elections, with Trump increasingly attributing current issues to political rivals and other countries.
