Vigilance and Anti-Corruption police conducted a search at the Chinnalapatti residence of Jega Veerapandian, a Deputy Director in the Tamil Nadu Health Department, following his arrest in a bribery case in Sivakasi.

According to officials, he was arrested by the Virudhunagar vigilance unit on allegations of taking a bribe of Rs 5,000 to release a contract-related payment.

A team led by Dindigul vigilance inspector Roopa Geetharani carried out the raid at his home, with the search continuing until around 1 am.

During the search, police reportedly found documents and receipts indicating the purchase of gold jewellery worth about Rs 1.5 crore in the name of his daughter, who is said to be a college student. The family told investigators that the jewellery corresponding to the receipts, purchased between 2019 and 2026, was kept in a bank locker.

Police seized the receipts and the bank locker key, and said further inquiry is under way.
