New Delhi: The Union government has rejected Starlink founder Elon Musk’s claim that a few wealthy players are preventing the rollout of Starlink internet services in India.
Responding to the allegation, the Ministry of Communications said the regulatory framework for satellite communication (satcom) internet services is being implemented in a non-discriminatory and fair manner.
The ministry noted that telecom licences for satellite internet services have been issued to three companies—Airtel, Reliance Jio and Starlink.
It added that assessments are currently under way to ensure the safety of users and protection of their data. The data security evaluation is at the same stage for all three licensed firms, and spectrum allocation can be sought only after the security checks are completed.
