The Madras High Court has postponed the pronouncement of its order in a case involving Chief Minister Vijay, who won the Perambur Assembly constituency by a margin of 53,715 votes.
Election petitions were filed by voters Dinesh and Lakshmi Narasimman, along with DMK candidate Sekar, challenging Vijay’s victory. They alleged that asset details worth Rs 30 crore were not disclosed in the affidavit and sought cancellation of the election result and a probe.
Vijay moved the court seeking dismissal of the petitions filed against him. During the hearing, the judge raised a question on whether the victory of a first-time candidate could be invalidated for an error attributed to an auditor.
With arguments from both sides completed, an order was expected on Thursday. However, the High Court deferred the verdict on Vijay’s plea and posted it for October 14.
