Elon Musk, who runs satellite internet provider Starlink, has alleged that the company’s plans in India are being obstructed by “certain oligarchs”. Starlink aims to deliver internet connectivity via satellites, including in areas without mobile phone signals.

According to the report, Starlink has received preliminary approval to offer satellite-based internet services in India, but still needs additional clearances. The company is said to be working on securing those remaining approvals.

Musk’s remarks came in response to a long post on his social media platform X, where a user argued that India needs Starlink. The user claimed that 4G service faces difficulties in 4,000 out of 11,256 villages.

Replying to the post, Musk said it was “unfortunate” that some wealthy people were blocking Starlink to maintain their monopoly over Indians. He added that people could guess who they are, and described the situation as a “crime against the people of India.”
