Revenue Minister Sengottaiyan has said the state government is continuing public welfare programmes despite severe financial strain and a large debt burden.
Speaking in Erode, he claimed the government, led by Chief Minister Vijay, is paying interest of about Rs 342 crore every day even as it faces what he described as a debt load of Rs 13 lakh crore.
He also predicted that the party he referred to as “T.Ve.K.” would win the Dharapuram and Madurantakam by-elections by a margin of 75,000 votes.
Sengottaiyan criticised remarks made about the Chief Minister by former Chief Minister Stalin and Opposition Leader Udhayanidhi, and said political discourse should remain civil. He also alleged that after EPS became AIADMK general secretary, the party suffered defeats in 12 elections, and urged that politics should be conducted in a dignified manner.
