Tamil Nadu has announced that government employees will be considered for promotions only if they submit their property details within the stipulated deadline. Officials have been asked to upload the information on the state’s Integrated Financial and Human Resource Management System (IFHRMS) portal by October 31.

According to an order issued by Chief Secretary Sai Kumar on October 5, employees must declare movable and immovable assets, savings and loans, covering all relevant holdings. The order also requires disclosure of assets purchased in the name of other individuals, along with the relationship between the employee and that person.

The government said only employees who file the declarations within the deadline will have their names included in promotion panels. Failure to submit the details will be treated as a violation of the government employees’ conduct rules, the order noted.

The report recalled that a similar requirement was issued in 2010 during the DMK government, based on recommendations of a committee headed by retired judge A.K. Rajan, but it was not implemented effectively. The new directive, including disclosure of benami holdings, has reportedly caused concern among government employees.
