New Delhi: India has objected to the United States suspending certain Indian companies from the Permanent Labor Certification (PERM) program, calling the move unacceptable, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.

Jaiswal clarified that the PERM process is different from the H-1B visa system and does not directly impact existing H-1B validity periods or current visa holders. However, he noted that the decision could have implications for the green card processing of eligible employees linked to the affected firms.

He said skilled professionals moving between the two countries add value to both economies. According to him, opportunities for Indians also benefit US companies through innovation, research, product development and job creation.

Jaiswal added that the US action does not align with advancing joint efforts between the two nations and said India is closely monitoring the issue. He also described remarks attributed to the US Vice President as unnecessary and dismissive of the contribution Indian professionals make to the American economy.

He further pointed out that the US has historically been shaped by generations of immigrants, whose work and contributions played a major role in the country’s growth.
