Vote counting for the by-elections in Tamil Nadu’s Madurantakam (Chengalpattu district) and Dharapuram (Tiruppur district) will be held on Thursday, October 9, amid keen public interest.
The bypolls were conducted on October 6. Along with the two Tamil Nadu constituencies, polling was also held for Puducherry’s Thattanchavadi seat and two West Bengal Assembly constituencies—Nandigram and Reginagar. The report noted that turnout was lower than in the last Assembly general election.
In Tamil Nadu, voter turnout was recorded at 85.9% in Madurantakam and 80.3% in Dharapuram. The electronic voting machines used in Madurantakam have been kept at the Integrated Training Centre for Social Development in Athur, while votes polled in Dharapuram are stored at the LRG College campus in Tiruppur.
Authorities said the strongrooms are under five-tier security. Counting for all the constituencies mentioned is scheduled to begin at 8:00 am, with final results expected by around 11:00 am.
