Washington: Starlink, the satellite-based internet service company, is attempting to enter the Indian market, but has not yet received the required licence.

In a post on X, Elon Musk alleged that “some wealthy people” are trying to block Starlink to protect their monopoly in India, adding that such actions would be against the interests of Indian citizens.

The Union government rejected the allegation, stating that India’s regulatory framework for satellite services is implemented in a fair and non-discriminatory manner, and said Musk’s charge was without basis.

The exchange triggered widespread debate on social media, with users posting both support and criticism of Musk.

Replying to one comment, Musk said Starlink has been licensed in 165 countries and claimed the company has followed Indian laws and procedures for five years, questioning why approval is still pending and remarking that “India’s real boss is Ambani.” The post has sparked fresh controversy.
