President Donald Trump praised SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk as a “modern-day Thomas Alva Edison” and described him as a “priceless treasure” for the United States.

Speaking at a Science and Technology Summit in Washington, Trump presented Musk with the National Medal of Science, described as the country’s highest honour for leading scientists.

The same medal was also awarded to Google co-founder Sergey Brin, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and AMD CEO Lisa Su.

In addition, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Dell founder Michael Dell received the National Medal for Technology and Innovation.

It was noted at the event that five of the six award recipients were immigrants who had moved to the United States from other countries.
