Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay on Thursday paid tributes to Immanuel Sekaran on his birth anniversary, calling for a renewed commitment to ensure equality and brotherhood flourish everywhere.
In a statement, Vijay said Sekaran dedicated his life to the uplift of marginalised communities and to social justice. He noted that Sekaran raised his voice for equality and self-respect, and fought for representation and rights of people on the margins.
Vijay urged people to follow Sekaran’s path and work towards building a society free of discrimination, reiterating the pledge to create an egalitarian social order.
DMK leader M K Stalin also issued a message, describing Sekaran as a leader who fought against caste oppression and for equal treatment of all. He said the state had marked the birth anniversary as a government function and built a memorial hall to honour Sekaran’s memory.
Stalin added that Sekaran opposed both British domination and caste-based oppression, and called on people to unite and work to establish equality.
