Chennai: Chief Minister Vijay said the by-election results in Madurantakam and Dharapuram reaffirmed his party’s standing in the public mind and reflected a democratic mandate.
In a statement, he claimed the victory was achieved without inducements or coercion, and without resorting to what he described as “formulas” seen in past elections. He said the outcome showed Tamil Nadu was not a fortress of corrupt forces but of what he called “pure, affectionate” public strength.
Vijay said voters had delivered a fitting response to those who, according to him, spread defamatory claims about deals and made derogatory remarks. He also said the public had answered critics who mocked the limited duration of his campaign.
Thanking voters in both constituencies, he expressed gratitude to leaders, ministers and functionaries of the Congress, VCK, MDMK and the Muslim League for their work. He described the result as a victory against slurs targeting women and against low-level personal attacks, adding that such victories would continue in the future.
