A meeting of Left parties has been scheduled for October 12 at Sriperumbudur near Chennai to discuss whether the two Communist parties will formally join the alliance led by TVK.

The discussion comes in the wake of recent by-elections in which TVK won, while the CPI contested alone in Dharapuram and the CPM contested alone in Maduranthakam, both ending in defeat.

With questions rising over their future political alignment, the two parties are currently extending outside support to the TVK government rather than being part of the alliance.

Sources said the October 12 coordination meeting will review the bypoll setbacks, including the loss of deposits, and deliberate on the possibility of entering the TVK-led “secular social justice victory” alliance.
