Delhi Police stepped up security across the national capital ahead of a planned protest at Jantar Mantar on October 10, with authorities deploying 25,000 police personnel along with paramilitary forces. More than 300 surveillance cameras were installed at key border points to monitor movement and prevent untoward incidents.

The protest was announced by the “Karappan Poochi” party, which said it would demonstrate demanding the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner. Police said multiple precautionary measures were put in place to prevent protesters from entering the city in violation of restrictions and to maintain law and order.

Security was intensified at major entry points such as Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur, where roads were sealed using cement barricades, iron spikes and barbed wire. Twelve temporary detention centres were set up in different parts of the city to hold those taken into custody.

Checks were also strengthened at railway stations and bus terminals, while entry and exit controls were imposed at 45 Metro stations. The Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan wrote to DGPs of states and Union Territories seeking coordination with Delhi Police and timely action.

Police detained several leaders and participants who reached the protest area, including Arvind Kejriwal, Mamata Banerjee and Pinarayi Vijayan, along with others named by authorities. More than 500 people gathered on routes leading to Jantar Mantar were also detained and held in halls, the report said.
