Delhi has seen heightened police deployment ahead of a planned protest by the Karappan Party, prompting questions over the scale of security arrangements.

Officials point to the party’s previous protest against Dharmendra Pradhan, during which violence broke out. Police later found that several people with criminal backgrounds had taken part.

Using automated identification cameras, police identified about 2,000 individuals with prior records who were present during the earlier protest. Authorities said the list included people linked to serious offences such as murder, robbery and rape.

With the new protest expected to carry a risk of violence, police have planned a large preventive deployment of around 25,000 personnel. Officials also said multiple AI-enabled surveillance cameras have been installed at various locations across the city.
