India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) has registered a case following an alleged attack on Flydubai captain Smith Machar by an Omani co-pilot, according to the report.

The incident is linked to an alleged plan by the co-pilot to hijack the aircraft and crash it into the ground with the intent of killing passengers. The captain is said to have thwarted the attempt.

A total of 174 passengers were reportedly saved. Captain Machar sustained serious injuries and is currently undergoing intensive care treatment.

The report said the Union government directed the NIA to take up the probe by registering a case, with the aim of uncovering the full details of what is described as an international-level conspiracy.
