Chennai: DMK president M.K. Stalin has described the outcome of the by-elections in two constituencies as an “interim victory for betrayal”, in a statement issued on Thursday.
Stalin alleged that Chief Minister Vijay, whom he accused of relying mainly on cinema-driven popularity, entered politics and rose to the top through “horse-trading” despite lacking a majority. He claimed the Chief Minister believed the bypoll campaign would also be carried by “reels” and publicity.
Referring to the campaign, Stalin said Vijay was seen drinking tea, driving a tractor, plucking drumsticks and visiting streets across the constituencies, adding that it was unusual for a sitting Chief Minister to campaign in such a manner.
He further alleged that after the election was announced, the government rolled out announcements such as an expansion of free travel for women and schemes including “Thaymaman gold ring” and “Annan seer”. Stalin claimed the result was achieved through multiple violations, and said the “fall of false image politics” had begun.
