Former US President Donald Trump has again expressed disappointment at not receiving the Nobel Peace Prize this year. Speaking at an election campaign event in Syracuse, New York, he criticised the Nobel committee’s decision.
The Nobel Peace Prize for the year has been announced for Navanethem “Navi” Pillay, a person of Tamil origin. Trump alleged that the prize had been “permanently devalued” by people he described as being against democracy, and said Norway would be remembered for the decision.
In his speech, Trump claimed he helped prevent wars or escalation between North and South Korea, Japan and North Korea, and China and Taiwan. He called the outcome “embarrassing” and said it had brought a stain on Norway.
Trump also posted on social media asserting that he had ended “eight wars” and therefore deserved not one but multiple Nobel Peace Prizes. He said he did not know Pillay and alleged she was openly hostile to Israel.
In the same post, he said letters from presidents and prime ministers of countries he helped were sent to the Nobel committee as proof. He added that he was ready to end the Iran conflict and the Russia–Ukraine war, and claimed he had prevented Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
